Website Rubric for College

As part of my college journey I need to make a website evaluation. At the end of this page I've evaluated 4 school websites using my rubric including my school site.

                    Nelson central school, New Zealand-

  • This site was well organized, colorful and fun. The information was clear and concise. The links were easy to manage, the site was easy to navigate. overall a very inviting cite; very user friendly.

  • I gave this site 24 points

  • Elk Island public school,Alberta,Canada-
http://www.eips.ca/
This site is also very well organized. It has a great photo on it's entry page. The links are well organized and meaningful. The site looks professionally made. The overall feel of the site is business. A school site needs to be more inviting.
I gave this site 21 points

             Lincoln High school,Lincoln,Nebraska- http://lhs.lps.org
This site has a lot going on. There is an abundance of information which is daunting. People feel overwhelmed with too may links and information. The website is cluttered and the images are out of focus.
I gave this site 17 points

Twin Spruce Junior High, Gillette, Wyoming- http://www.campbellcountyschools.net

This is my school site. The links are organized well and manageable to a new viewer. The overall appeal of the site is lacking. The images are outdated and out of focus. The information is concise and well put together.

I gave this site 20 points

Junior High + Hormones = Creative Art

Welcome all to my drama filled life. My name is Corina Crump. I live in the tiny town of Gillette, Wyoming where everyone knows everyone.  I ‘m a junior high Art teacher at Twin Spruce. Between the gossip and hormones my days are quite busy.

I teach 8th grade Art II and 9th grade Clay animation.  I decided to get my Masters in Technology in Education to advance my abilities with technology. Clay animation requires me to understand and teach many different forms of technology and software.  Did I mention I’m technology illiterate. Majority of my students teach me about my computer and the different programs it has to offer.

This generation is constantly documenting everything they say and do. It’s exhausting to keep up with new technology trends. My lack of knowledge makes me feel like a grandma banging at the keyboard, and I’m not much older than my students. I’m determining to further my understanding and hopefully one day exceeds my student’s knowledge of technology.

Until then I’ll keep you posted from the trenches while I deal with each mini teen crisis one at a time.

Reflections on Blog Articles- Told by an Exhausted Junior High Teacher

Scaffolding for struggling Students: Reading and Writing with blogs

Digital Literacy’s: Laptops and Inspired Writing

Both of these articles are encouraging blogs in the classroom.  Both articles noticed an increase in quality of writing and participation. Most students who are unsuccessful in the classroom find blogging a comfortable way to communicate. They feel safe knowing that others won’t ridicule or judge their answer. There feeling are guarded while in a traditional setting but students speak freely when blogging.

Although there are many advantages to blogging in the classroom; there are also disadvantages. Many students abuse the privilege of a computer by gaming, texting, and bullying. These concerns are expected when brining a new technology and method into the classroom. Restrictions and guards need to be put in place to protect others from harmful responses and abuse.  This responsibility falls on the educator.
I believe Technology is a productive tool in the classroom and more often than not the outcome is prosperous. Educators need to take the initiative to put restrictions in place for a successful environment.

That’s how I see’s it.
Thanks for reading.
